FAQ.

  • Q: When should the "GelSkin Wound Dressing (Sterile)" be replaced?
A: The hydrogel part of "GelSkin Wound Dressing (Sterile)" will become swollen after absorbing certain amount of wound exudate. To keep the wound in an optimal moist healing environment, please change the dressing when you have noticed that the dressing is totally detached to the wound or the dressing become opaque and swelling. The frequency of dressing change is subject to the amount of exudate. As the wound gradually heals, the frequency of dressing changes would be reduced according to the diminishing amount of exudate to ensure that the new epithelium is not damaged due to excessive dressing changes.
  • Q: If the gel-like substance appears while changing the dressing, how do you deal with it?
A: This is a normal outcome when using hydrogel dressings. When the hydrogel dressing comes cross the wound exudate, the hydrogel molecules bind with the exudate to form a gel-like substance. This substance may resemble suppuration and is often mistaken for wound infection. "GelSkin Wound Dressing (Sterile)" is composed of hydrophilic polymers compounded with water. When the gel absorbs more exudate than it can bear, it breaks down into granules but does not adhere to the wound or skin surface. Simply rinse it away with sterile water or saline solution if this substance is found while changing dressings.
  • Q: Can "GelSkin Wound Dressing (Sterile)" be applied to a sensitive skin?
A: "GelSkin Wound Dressing (Sterile)" is made with a special formulated “medical-grade hypoallergenic acrylic adhesive." Experiments have shown that it is less likely to cause allergic reactions compared to the acrylic adhesives used in the commercially available dressings. If redness or rash occur, remove the dressing immediately. If the rash remains after removal, discontinue the use and seek for assistance from health professionals.
  • Q: Is it necessary to clean the wound before applying the "GelSkin Wound Dressing (Sterile)"?
A: To keep the wound clean is essential regardless of the type of the dressing applied. For the first-time user of "GelSkin Wound Dressing (Sterile)", before applying the dressing, it is recommended to clean the wound carefully with saline solution and wait for the surrounding area of the wound to dry. During subsequent dressing changes, if excessive exudate causes gel residues on the wound, cleanse the wound with saline solution and wait for the surrounding area to dry before applying a new dressing. Attention: For non-surgical incisions or superficial wounds, it is not advised to use iodine for wound disinfection as it may harm newly formed granulation tissues. Instead, after disinfecting with iodine, cleanse the wound again with saline solution before applying the dressing. Please also do not forget to clean the skin around the wound to remove any residual alcohol or iodine which may affect the adhesion of the ""GelSkin Wound Dressing (Sterile)".
  • Q: How to store "GelSkin Wound Dressing (Sterile)" when not in use?
